Mission/Background :
Unfortunately, it is impossible to switch all plastics from petroleum-based to bio-based materials in terms of quality and quantity. In this case, we wonder if we can effectively use biomass materials, which are relatively inexpensive and not used much, that are close to us now, as materials rather than fuel.
i-WPC, or innovative wood-plastic composite, is a plastic that uses biomass from forest resources and other sources while maintaining performance and without waste. Plastic materials that contain up to 55% biomass have the same molding freedom as conventional plastics and have achieved improved material performance.
In addition, we have created a marine biodegradable biomass composite plastic material "Biofade" which is an effective solution to the problem of plastic waste in the ocean. The biodegradation speed and melting properties can be changed depending on the compounding composition. It can be used for injection as well as blow molding, and we have also successfully molded a float buoy. |

○Biofade, a marine biodegradable biomass composite plastic material Large amount of bacteria live in food waste and soil, making biodegradation easy, but seawater has very few bacteria, making it a very difficult environment for biodegradation. Conversely, plastic that biodegrades in seawater can be said to be almighty. In order to solve "the ocean plastic waste problem," we aimed to create a plastic material that easily biodegrades in seawater. The result is "Biofade".
○i-WPC, an advanced wood-plastic composite material Normally, wood-plastic materials are said to be unsuitable for injection molding because of their extremely high melt viscosity, and at higher temperature the wood components are thermally decomposed, causing a foul odor and discoloration, so injection molding was considered impossible. We were the first to establish this "innovative wood plastic composite “i-WPC” that can be injection molded, etc. This can be molded using commonly used plastic injection molding machines and molds.

Highlights

April 18, 2025: At the Umi Labo Contest hosted by the OsakaJC at the Blue Ocean Dome at the Osaka Expo, we won the Global Ship Award.
In 2024, We successfully molded the world's first biodegradable donut float with 25 cm-diameter using blow molding. The University of Tokyo's Atmosphere and Ocean Research Institute successfully tested a drifting buoy.
