Mission/Background :
Vetanic aims to commercialize iPS cell-derived regenerative medicine products in the veterinary field, based on its proprietary animal iPS cell technology. Its first pipeline focuses on canine iPS cell-derived mesenchymal stem cells (iMSCs). Establishing iPS cells for certain species, like dogs, has historically been challenging due to resistance to pluripotency induction. However, collaborative research by Prof. Kazuya Edamura (Nihon University), Prof. Seiji Shiozawa (Kurume University), and Prof. Hideyuki Okano (Keio University) has overcome this obstacle, resulting in clinical-grade iPS cells and patented innovations.
Using this technology, Vetanic is developing various regenerative medicine products, including iMSCs. The company plans to seek marketing authorization from the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries.
Starting with dogs, Vetanic aims to expand its impact to save the lives of many companion animals, including cats and horses.

Technology & Business
iPS cells are pluripotent stem cells capable of differentiating into various cell types. By standardizing animal iPS cells as a starting material, we aim to develop treatments for diseases and save lives. Currently, we are developing iMSC for dogs and expanding the technology to cats, which represent over half of companion animals. Recognizing the demand for equine regenerative medicine abroad, we also plan to establish horse iPS cells.
While animal regenerative medicine is used worldwide, most treatments rely on MSCs from adipose tissue or bone marrow, requiring invasive collection and donor dependency. Using iPS cells, we aim to create donor-independent therapies. Master cell banks will enhance manufacturing efficiency, providing sustainable and accessible treatments.
Unlike somatic stem cells, which face market challenges, our iMSC technology scales globally via master cell line licensing. We aim to make iPS cells the standard for animal regenerative medicine, improving welfare and benefiting society.

Alliance strategy
Japan leads the world in animal iPS cell research. To accelerate progress and achieve the world’s first animal iPS cell regenerative medicine, we seek collaborative research opportunities with academic institutions and innovators. Cost is critical in animal healthcare, thus we explore technologies to reduce manufacturing costs. Internationally, we seek partners to use our cell lines for cell cultivation, product manufacturing, and commercialization, aiming to make a significant impact on animal healthcare.
