Mission/Background :
Setsuro Tech Ltd. is a start-up company that makes genome engineering animals using new genome editing technology. Dr.Takemoto at Tokushima University and his group invented“Genome Editing by Electroporation of Cas9 Protein” (GEEP). Using this GEEP technology, we can provide the genome engineering animals efficiently at a relatively low cost. Due to the high demand of genome editing, we decided to launch our business.
Setsuro Tech Ltd. started to make the genome edited fertilized-eggs and sell them. We are sure that we will need the genome engineering domesticated animals in the near future, so that we will be a leading company to provide any genome engineering animals.
We started this business in Tokushima prefecture (that is in the countryside surrounded by mountains and rivers). We would like to send our new ideas from Tokushima, and wish to gather biotechnology companies to Tokushima and make our town more active. This is our vision. |

CRISPR/CAS9 is called the third genome editing technology, you need to put the protein of CRISPR/CAS9 or gene of CRISPR/CAS9 inside of the cell. When you edit the genome of the animals’whole cells, you need to edit the fertilized-eggs of the animal. The conventional method is using thin glass needle to insert reagent into the fertilized-eggs, is called Microinjection. In 2015, our CEO Dr.Takemoto and Dr.Hashimoto (Osaka University) established new method that they use CRISPR/Cas9 protein to make genome edited mice easily and effectively. They are currently in the process of getting the patent now. They call this new method “Genome Editing by Electroporation of Cas9 Protein” (GEEP), This is the way that we put molecule into the fertilized-eggs and is far more speedy and direct. In December 2016, we got the first prize at NEDO business plan contest, hosted by Ministry of Economy Trade and Industry. We also received Japan Entrepreneur award, and the prize of Mitsubishi Research Institute Award in 2017.
