The polymer monolith is composed of continuous through-pores and skeletons, of which sizes can be independently controlled. By using this monolith for HPLC, the improvement of analysis sensitivity and the large reduction of the organic solvent consumption can be achieved. High performance and reduction of analysis time can be obtained with the monolithic HPLC column, due to the relatively large through-pores and small skeletons compared to conventional particle-packed column. The polymer monolith can be also applied to micro reactor column, having metal nano particles on the surface of skeletons, which can work as a catalyst for organic coupling reactions. High yield and reduction of reaction time can be achieved by applying this monolithic reactor with Palladium to Heck reaction, compared to conventional batch method.
